Honey Olive Oil Biscuits "Melomakarona" are a traditional Greek Christmas treat made with aromatic ingredients like cinnamon, walnuts, and high-quality olive oil. Perfect as a festive sweet or a thoughtful homemade gift for the holiday season.
Ingredients for the Dough:
- 1 bottle MANI Extra Virgin Olive Oil, Selection or MANI Olive Oil with Orange or MANI Olive Oil with Lemon
- 1/2 glass freshly squeezed orange juice
- 1 tsp orange zest
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tsp baking powder
- approx. 1 kg flour
- finely chopped walnuts and some cinnamon for garnish
Ingredients for the Syrup:
- 1 glass honey
- 2 glasses sugar
- 2 glasses water
- 2 tsp lemon zest
Preparation:
- Preheat the oven to 170°C (340°F). Mix all ingredients except the flour using a mixer or whisk for about 5 minutes until light and airy. Gradually add flour until a soft, moldable dough forms. Cover and let rest for 45 minutes.
- Shape the dough into oval, flat balls. Arrange them with some space on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 15–20 minutes until golden brown.
- Prepare the syrup: Heat all ingredients in a saucepan, stirring occasionally, until liquid. Briefly dip the warm Melomakarona into the syrup, then sprinkle with cinnamon and chopped walnuts. Serve and enjoy!
